Exciting Stuff In The Pipeline

Fangs

Firstly, a couple of big name - sorry, BIG NAME - remixes due to appear soon: my John Disco ‘Reversion’ of the Franz Ferdinand tune “No You Girls”, and the Linus Loves remix of Britney Spears‘ “Circus”.

Been working on some happening new stuff over the last few months. First off, the best looking band in Glasgow, Fangs have their debut single, “S.I.C.K.O”, due for release very soon on the King Tuts Recordings label. They kindly asked me to take up the producer’s chair and the results have been mighty pleasing to everyone involved. And what’s more, they’ve asked me to do a “S.I.C.K.O” remix for the single too! Hot stuff.

My first ’solo’ record, as John Hospital (a sideline to Dirty Hospital), is set to come out within the next couple of months. It’s called “Truant” and it’s a four-tracker on the happening new Glasgow based label Pest Control. It’s in the techno/electro stylee, with heavy doses of ‘83 Electro and Italo Disco. The label recently launched with the brilliant new EP by Tokyo Knife Attack.

Also been in the studio as engineer/producer with Stevie Reverb a.k.a Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian. He’s recently been doing gigs with his band The Reverberations, as well as appearing in the recently reformed Vaselines.

While the Amphetameanies haven’t been making high quality music videos, we’ve been busy writing the next album. The aim this time is to take less than six or seven years to follow up the previous one. Wish us luck everyone! In case you didn’t manage to get your copy of the “Goodbye Boyfriend EP”, GET ONE NOW!

New John Disco music

John Disco on MySpace

As if I wasn’t happy enough being involved in about 18 bands, and assuming about 46 pseudonyms, I’ve decided to unleash some actual John Disco music via MySpace.

The plan with this new stuff is to in some way realise the initial goal set out in ‘94 of putting out some electronic-disco-funk, which was partly achieved by bis but mostly ended up on masses of 4-track tapes from 94-99. In 2008, it seems that the dance music of the late 70s and early 80s is once again influencing everyone and their gran. And the kids are loving it! So on one hand, now is the right time. On the other, does the world need more disco music? The former suits me. The continuing success of labels like DFA and Modular has been quite inspirational of late, and they show little sign of letting up…

So, check out the new style. There will be more stuff getting thrown up on MySpace fairly regularly, and hopefully some JD releases coming out soon…

Word From The Street - API Audio

API Audio

The nice folk at API Audio have added my 10 cents worth to their ‘Word From The Street‘ section, where people in the music business gush about their API gear. API manufacture Class A mic preamps, EQs, compressors, recording consoles etc.. They also do a fine range in 500 series lunchbox format modules, of which I own a few. What’s more, they are sending me a free t-shirt for my bother!

John In Ibiza

Howdy folks, and thanks for dropping by my new site. This is attempt number one at a Web site which will let people find out what I’m currently up to, what I’ve done in the past, what I’ll be up to and would like to be doing in the future. Good! New bits and pieces will be added soon.

In the last couple ‘o years I’ve helped make some really great records with The Amphetameanies, Linus Loves, Mylo, Dirty Hospital, Sexual Objects, Flying Matchstick Men, and most recently me old bis band mate Manda Rin. I’ve also had the pleasure of remixing tracks by Justin Timberlake
, Scissor Sisters and Mika with Linus Loves. The plan for the next year is to get in amongst it to meet and work with more great creative people. Watch this whitespace..
